Last week the new "Home Organizing" Netflix series "The Home Edit" started and as expected I'm a full fan! Joanna and Clea from Nashville, Tennessee are the most successful home organizers in the US and have already published their own book (with the same name) and their own product line. The two tidying gurus not only tidy up ordinary people's homes, but also superstars like Eva Longoria, Khloé Kardashian, Neil Patrick Harris from the show "How I met your mother", to name just a few names.
Their system is smart, sustainable and beautiful, as they say themselves. Labels play a big role for them, the key to success, so to speak.
For those who don't have Netflix themselves or don't want to invest the time, here's my personal little summary:
I liked it:
- They work in a team i.e. 2 professionals (Joanna and Clea) with 2-3 assistants and 1-2 craftsmen - what a dream idea!
- So they can complete huge projects in one day and make an incredible difference.
- In their system, every object has to be "contained", i.e. it has to live in a container or a box. This makes everything look very stylish.
- They are perfectionists and pay extreme attention to the smallest details, even if it's just a garage. (albeit Khloé Kardashian's 😉 )
Not so liked:
- They work without the client, which makes mucking out very difficult or impossible.
- Consequently, in my opinion, there is far too little decluttering.
- In the kitchen or pantry, all food is transferred into beautiful containers. Of course, this looks very stylish and cool. However, I don't think that the order will last because it is very time-consuming and impractical.
