Good morning, Day 2 of the Shut-Down light....
After all the headlines and special broadcasts on the subject of food supply, I thought that today we could devote ourselves to food. Specifically, the goods that we don't have in the fridge or freezer, such as dry goods like pasta and rice, tinned food, biscuits, crisps etc.
Did the week's shopping turn out a bit bigger this week? Then now is a good time to tidy up the pantry or the storage cupboard so that we can find the things again and nothing expires because we no longer know what we have bought.
Here is a checklist:
- Take all the food out of the cupboard and clean it.
- Group all goods logically by categories and subcategories. Divide the things into containers or boxes. This box method also has the advantage that the cupboards themselves get less dirty. At the moment it's probably not so easy to buy boxes, but no stress. I myself also like to use shoe boxes or other packaging that is already lying around at home. If a food item has already expired, you don't have to throw it away straight away. Try it out over the next few days to see if it still smells good. Except for cheese and meat, I'm not too fussy about that...
- Now you can rearrange everything. What is used most often belongs at eye level and at the front. What is hardly ever used, you put at the top.
- If you have hoarded a bit too much, store some in the basement or something. The cupboards should not be too full (ideally only 80% full). Otherwise it will become confusing.
- Go through the new order with your family/roommates so that you are not constantly asked where things are...
