Yesterday I wrote about the wardrobe and so I had the idea that we could "look" at the linen cupboard today, because I think this is very often a problem zone. I have also reorganised our linen cupboard after the training to become a tidiness coach, like the whole flat, but I am still thinking about what is the ideal storage for towels, bed linen and co. and I am not yet completely satisfied with our linen cupboard...what I have already achieved in any case is to massively reduce the contents, which is very helpful.
Have you ever thought about how many bed linen sets, towels, bath towels and tea towels you have? And above all, do you really need them all? Of course I can't give you a fixed number, because it depends on how many people live in the household and how often you have overnight guests...
- Gather all the bed linen sets and think about what is a sensible number of sets per person or per bed. I decided on 2 sets per bed, as we have our own washing machine and tumble dryer, which is enough for us. I donated the sets that I didn't like so much or that were already worn out.
- Do the same with the hand and bath towels. How many do you need per person? How many bathrooms are there in the house? Do you still need towels for the pets (we have some for the dog)?
- Go through the other things in the linen cupboard. Tablecloths, spare cushions, etc. and think about whether it makes sense to keep them. As with all things, if you haven't used it in over a year, it can probably move on....
- Once you have looked through all the things, think about a sensible way to store the things you want to keep. The things you use often should be at eye level and easily accessible. For example, you don't need to keep guest laundry in the same place... Also think about whether you want to fold or roll things and whether baskets help you to be more organised... I have one basket per category.
- And what do you do with the sorted out things? Things that are still in good condition can certainly be donated to charitable organisations or perhaps also to homeless shelters or women's shelters. What doesn't look so great anymore is probably still very welcome at an animal shelter.
That's it. Have a nice day and see you next time!
